Bryson Lashun Potts (born November 1, 2002), better known by his stage name NLE Choppa (formerly YNR Choppa), is an American rapper from Memphis, Tennessee. He is best known for his hit single “Shotta Flow,” which earned a remix with Los Angeles rapper Blueface.
Choppa had first gone under the moniker YNR (Young N Ruthless) Choppa and released his debut mixtape, No Love Take Over. He soon switched over to the name NLE Choppa, the NLE being an acronym for his brand, “No Love Entertainment.”
2019 being an extremely influential year for Choppa, he released many significant singles which would boost his standing in the rap industry. He had been by releasing “Shotta Flow,” “Shotta Flow 2,” and “ChopBloc” featuring BlocBoy JB. Moving along the year, Choppa began to release some of his most popular tracks such as “Shotta Flow 3”, “Camelot”, and “Famous Hoes”.
Ending 2019, on December 20, Choppa released his debut EP, “Cottonwood” featuring his famous “Shotta Flow”. Three days later, on December 23, he released the deluxe version of the EP, obtaining a feature from Meek Mill in the process.
In 2020, Choppa released two projects. He had released the lead single “Walk Em Down” featuring Roddy Ricch of his debut studio album, Top Shotta on August 7, 2020, featuring guest appearances from.
On August 11, 2020, it was announced that Choppa would be a part of the XXL 2020 Freshman Class, a prestigious thing to partake in for young rappers.
Throughout August 2020, Choppa had launched his YouTube channel titled Awakened Choppa. This channel was made to establish his holistic and healthier lifestyle, which included veganism and gardening.
Stemming from his awakeness, On November 1, 2020, NLE Choppa released his sophomore mixtape, From Dark to Light with features from Big Sean and Ink. The mixtape illustrated a softer type of music, incredibly distinguishable from the songs on Top Shotta.
Despite Choppa’s now healthier and awakened lifestyle, music-wise it all came to an end in March 2021, as he was arrested on Burglary, Weapons, and Drug Charges, he was released n a $4,500 U.S dollar bond. After being released, he dropped his “First Day Out”, a remix of SpotEmGottem’s “Beat Box”.
On January 28, 2022, NLE Choppa released his highly anticipated third mixtape, Me vs. Me with features from Polo G, Moneybagg Yo, Young Thug, and G Herbo. The mixtapes tempo is extremely dissimilar from his previous mixtape, From Dark to Light and highly resembles Top Shotta.
