Arash
ć” (ARASHI -literal translation as âStormâ) is a Japanese boy band consisting of five members formed under the Johnny & Associates talent agency. The members include leader 性éæș ( Satoshi Ohno), æ«»äșçż (Sho Sakurai), çžèé çŽ (Masaki Aiba), äșćźźćäč (Kazunari Ninomiya), and æŸæŹæœ€ (Jun Matsumoto). ARASHI officially formed on September 15, 1999, in Honolulu, Hawaii, and made their CD debut on November 3, 1999.
Since its debut, the 5 member idol group quickly gained attention and became a chart-topping, stage dominating and genre-defining superstar from Japan. To date, the legends have sold over 50 million copies of songs, albums, and videos worldwide, received over 100 awards and are considered one of the most successful boy groups from Japan to date.
Arashi returned to Hawaii to perform for the first time in the United States at âARASHI BLAST in Hawaiiâ, live concerts to commemorate the bandâs 15th Anniversary of debut on September 20 & 21, 2014.
Arashiâs 20th Anniversary tour Arashi Anniversary Tour 5x20, started in November 2018 became the largest concert tour held in Japan to date. with a total of 50 performances for over 2.43 million total attendees.
In 2019, to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Arashiâs debut. Arashiâs official YouTube channel was opened. They also made a live announcement of the release of the official social media; including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and Weibo.Â
On February 4, 2020, Arashi posted a mysterious message on February 4, 2020 on Twitter. The animated tweet showed numbers from 0 to 256 ending with âFebruary 2020â, along with the sound of fanâs âARSHIâ calls.
In response to the mysterious message, on February 5, 2020, Arashiâs official site made an announcement that a total of 256 songs from their 16 albums will be released for streaming and download in digital form on February 7, 2020.
Arashi released âARASHI Reborn Vol.1â, a digital EP for download and streaming on February 28, 2020. It was the first part of the âRebornâ Project by Arashi. Eight months after the release of âTurning Upâ, Arashi released their second original digital single âIN THE SUMMERâ, written and produced by Rami Yacoub on July 24, 2020.
âWhenever you callâ, the bandâs first song that is completely sung in English in collaboration with Bruno Mars and D'Mile, was released as a digital single on September 18, 2020, before entering hiatus in late-2020.
During 2019 and 2020, Arashiâs continuous success in Japanâs domestic music industry began to be recognized worldwide as well. Netflix Japan made a documentary series âARASHIâs Diary -Voyage-â, full English-subtitled 24 episodes of the bandâs coverage and interviews. With 3.3 million copies sold, Arashiâs 5th greatest hits album â5X20 All the Best!! 1999-2019â, released on June 26, 2019, became the most selling album in 2019. The album is also made as the âBiggest-selling album worldwideâ in the Guinness World Records.
On June 14, 2021, Arashi announced their new concert film âARASHI Anniversary Tour 5X20 FILM âRecord of Memoriesâ.â The film was exhibited in both Gala and Dolby Vision categories in SIFF for the first time in the organizationâs history. The film was shown on the bandâs 22nd Debut Anniversary, on November 3, 2021 in Dolby Cinema, then to hit theatres nationwide in Japan on November 26, 2021 â which is the member Ohnoâs birthday. As per the press conference at FCCJ, the film opened in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia in November 2021. Itâs also planned to open in South Korea in 2022, followed by the schedule adjustment for the openings in China and Brunei Kingdom.
