Joy Club
Artificial Joy Club, formerly known as Sal’s Birdland, was a Canadian alternative rock group formed in 1993 and active until 1999, when the group broke up.
Artificial Joy Club began their career as Sal’s Birdland, named after Reny’s stage name Sal, and signed with Warner Bros. Records, but after the label rejected the follow-up to their debut album So Very Happy, the group signed with Interscope Records. During the transition, they changed their name from Sal’s Birdland to Artificial Joy Club.
Artificial Joy Club wrote one hit single, “Sick and Beautiful,” which appeared at no. 17 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks.
The band’s members consisted of Louise Reny and Leslie Howe, former members of the pop group One to One, guitarist Micheal Goyette, bassist Tim Dupont, and drummer Andrew Lamarche.
