Mighty Mi
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are a ska band from Boston, Massachusetts. Formed in 1983, they rose to national acclaim in the early ‘90s, when their signing with Mercury Records presaged the brief ska boom. They’re best known for the 1997 hit “The Impression That I Get,” which reached No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving the group its first and only Top 40 chart placement.
The Bosstones are also famous for their nine-member lineup, which features three horn players and “Bosstone” Ben Carr, who serves as an onstage dancer and hype man. Another key element of the band’s sound is frontman Dicky Barrett, whose growling vocals give the outfit a harder edge.
Barrett moonlights as the announcer on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, a gig he took during the Bosstones' 2004-06 hiatus. The group reformed in 2007 and has since released three albums: Pin Points and Gin Joints (2009), The Magic of Youth (2011) and While We’re At It (2018) The band still tours and performs sold-out shows nationwide.
