Urban Cone
Urban Cone is a Swedish indie pop band from Stockholm, Sweden formed in 2010 by Emil Gustafsson (vocals, bass), Rasmus Flyckt (vocals, keyboard), Magnus Folkö (drums), Tim Formgren (guitar) and Jacob William Sjöberg (keyboard). The group was formed while its members were all in high school.
Urban Cone’s gritty electro-pop offers an honest, fresh take on indie rock. Their first album, Our Youth, has garnered over 10 million streams since its release, with singles “Urban Photograph” and “We Should Go To France” charting in the top 5 on Hype Machine. The Swedish band continued to build momentum last year, touring across the United States and Europe, playing major festivals alongside acts such as Empire of the Sun, The Shins, and Skrillex.
Influenced by the likes of Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode, they’ve already caught the attention of artists across all genres and collaborated with Porter Robinson, John Dahlback and Lucas Nord. Their latest single “Sadness Disease” sees the band tackle a difficult subject– trying to live up to society’s impossible standards of beauty and perfection– while keeping its signature wit and hook-laden pop sound intact.
In addition to ’Sadness Disease”, the double-A-side single also features Urban Cone’s live studio cover of Porter Robinson’s “Lionhearted” (the band did the vocals for Porter’s version of the track). Look for an album and tours from Urban Cone in early 2015.
Their previous single “New York” is a relentlessly catchy song that provides a glimpse of their future. New York is known for its limitless ability to inspire artists across generations and geography. Now these five young men from Sweden offer their celebratory act of musical homage with a track as addictive and invigorating as the city itself.
