Why Don't We
Why Donāt We is a boy band consisting of Daniel Seavey, Zach Herron, Corbyn Besson, Jonah Marais and Jack Avery. The members individually gained recognition over social media by posting covers and doing live streams. Seavey was also a contestant on season 14 of the American TV show American Idol. The group started activities on September 27, 2016, with the release of their two singles āTaking Youā and āNobody Gotta Knowā and EP Only The Beginning, shortly thereafter.
The band gained a lot of recognition from their 2017 single āSomething Differentā. They went on to release four EPs in that year, notably gaining recognition for their collaboration with YouTuber Logan Paul, who also directed several of their music videos at this time.
Their first release in 2018, the Ed Sheeran-written āTrust Fund Baby,ā ranked #2 on the American iTunes Chart, and was the bandās highest achievement to that date. They released three singles in June, July and August of that year preceding their first full length album on August 31, 2018. āTalkā, the second pre-release, peaked at #1 on the American iTunes Chart, surpassing their personal record just five months later.
The boys had big plans in 2019, planning to release one song per month to lead up to their highly anticipated sophomore album at the end of that year. Notable releases this era include their Macklemore collaboration, Marchās āI Donāt Belong In This Clubā, and their April single āDonāt Change,ā the bandās first movie soundtrack feature. Their 2019 tour in support of 8 Letters also ran through first half of the year, with the singles still coming.
āWhat Am Iā, 2019ās August release was dubbed as one of the most important moments in the bandās career. Also written by Ed Sheeran, the song was kept a secret for a long time and was a special gifts to the fans before their 2019 tour ended. They promoted this song a lot, additionally re-releasing the acoustic version as the September single. āChills,ā the December single released two days before the New Year marked the end of their monthly release saga. The album was also expected at the end of 2019, but the band announced a hiatus to work on more music soon thereafter in January 2020.
The bandās nine-month hiatus ended with the release of āFallin'ā in September, and the release of their sophmore album The Good Ones and The Bad Ones at the beginning of 2021.
