DR: So how do you feel getting the dirrtiest regional DJ of the year award? BC: I felt ecstatic and honored! Friends were texting me about it because i was in NY and i wasn’t online yet that day. I’ve gained other awards before but this is my first one as a DJ/remixer. DR: Tell us a lil bout yourself! Like how did u get into the whole DJ-ing deal? What made you start DJ-ing? As some would know, by day, i am a music composer for TV and radio commercials. The DJing came in around 2006-2007 when i was looking for something to do outside of advertising. I originally thought of joining a band, but not many bands in Manila do club music (except for cover party bands) So with the help of my friends who are local popular DJs like Cocoy Puyat and Travis Monsod, i was able to learn DJing – from Traktor, to CDs and vinyls. My first DJ residency was at BED Manila, which eventually i became a partner too. DR: What kind of music do you like? and what’s your fave songs at the moment? I like mostly big-room house, vocal anthems! I like it when people sing along while dancing. At the moment i love RLP ft. Barbara Tucker – R.E.S.P.E.C.T, Erick Morillo – Live Your Life, Usher – DJ Got Us Fallin In Love Again mashup with Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Miami to Ibiza’, Toy Armada’s remix of Kylie Minogue’s – ‘Can’t Beat The Feeling’ and of course my remix of Glee’s ‘Teenage Dream’. DR: If i never heard of DJ Brian Cua before, which remixes/mixsets should i listen to? (name one or more) Well i guess i can say i am more known for my Gleemixes. If there’s a glee remix out there, chances are it’s by me! My Kylie Goddess megamix still gets a lot of hits till now. DR: What’s your New Year’s resolution? To exercise more! Make more quality remixes, get more regional and US gigs | |
